Helvetica in situ

   (2005.05.22)

You know your typeface is iconic when a single digit is recognizable.

Base of side of truck reads 222 in Helvetica

(You didn’t have to give it to us three times, though.)

Sign in Helvetica shows a 9 carved out of negative space inside a 5

Plus a sort of folk-art version of Helvetica. Perfect!

Wooden sign reads ‘Islington Community School’ in hand-drawn Helvetica and ‘Etobicoke Parks & Recreation Services’ in Eras, with other stenciled letters showing an address

Fender of brown truck is emblazoned ‘construction king’ in Helvetica

Raised Helvetica Condensed letters on building read ‘26’ in the afternoon sun

(Cf. crumbly, lapidary Helvetica.)

I’m sure they really meant to write 53′.

Black truck panel is emblazoned with “53’ ” in red Helvetica

Or “Rankin’ with type.” You don’t have to like Helvetica to acknowledge that the Ian Rankin paperbacks, with their debossed neon Helvetica author byline, work.

What a great idea: Helvetica (male model, shurely?!) growing from the living rock!

A hole cut in stucco surrounds the address ‘2516 Yonge’ rendered in 3D letters that angle out of the brick wall

‘Please do not reshelve materials’ in white Helvetica on a clear Lucite desk notice
