“Yes. I know that. I know it. But I don’t know why.”

“He had something to hide, Hanno had. Maybe it was only himself hiding from himself. We’ll never know. Even his parents. The only photo they have was taken when he was 11.”

“Why is that?” I asked. “Why is it like this?”

“It’s because we’re queer, my dear.”
